All-Women’s Lockdown Stops Biggest Oil Refinery in UK

With 500 protesters traveling from London to help spark a week of action, 12 female protesters handcuffed themselves to semis (lorries) that had been parked to block the main road leading to an oil refinery yesterday. Demonstrators drove the vehicles to the Coryton oil refinery in Essex to stop traffic getting to and from the site. Organized by the group, Crude Awakening, this action is part of the global week of action called for by the Climate Justice Action Network (CJA).

in Manila, 10 fisherfolk with Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) and the multisectoral alliance Save Laguna Lake Movement (SLLM) swam 600 feet meters from the Guadalupe side of Pasig River in Makati City to the Pasig side of the river and then went back to Guadalupe near the ferry station to dramatize their opposition against a controversial dredging funded by a Belgian corporation. The protesters also floated signs flowing towards Malacanang Palace bearing their demand to President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III to recall the controversial Laguna Lake dredging project.
