Forest Defenders Build Anti-Logging Blockades In Mattole Forest

from It’s Going Down

In recent days, forest defenders in the Mattole forest took action against multiple logging plans in the area by building blockade structures that prevented workers from entering their worksite, costing the company valuable time and money.

Blockades were made from timber that had been cut and piled next to the road from the company’s previous extractive logging activities. Timber Harvesting Plans (THPs) in this area include multiple old-growth and developing second growth units on steep hillsides.

Pictured here are two of the blockade structures and a picture of one of the nearby THP’s, at risk of being logged at any time.
